It's Chapati, and you
can drop by if you want to!

Indian food lends itself to sharing at the table and has a way of bringing people together. So, if you are planning an

Indian-themed party, the food is something that everyone will look forward to.

Planning is key, so gather some information from your guests before the party.

Confirm your guest list
  • Number of guests

  • Would your non-vegetarian guests prefer chicken, lamb or seafood?

  • What are your vegetarian's preference

  • Any dietary restrictions (gluten-free, dairy-free, allergies)

Indian meals are always a balance

A few curries, dhal, rotis, and rice make for a

great selection. Create a menu that offers variety whilst all the flavours work on one plate.

Samosas, poppadoms and chutneys are the perfect way to start the party, allowing guests to settle in, break the ice,

or a poppadom or two.

Choose a selection of sides that elevate the meal and add texture and freshness to the dining experience.

Some spicy pickles, tangy or sweet chutneys, sambals, raita or green salad will add a final touch.

Consider that guests may go for seconds, which is a great sign; it means they love the food and that you will probably be remembered as a fantastic host for going the extra mile.

Finally, nothing completes an Indian meal like something sweet.

Potluck Club!

Pretty pots or serving bowls, laid out in a row, makes for a true homestyle buffet station.

Le Creuset, AMC, stainless steel, brass, copper, cast-iron casseroles or balti pots, or ceramic or stoneware serving dishes can add an element of colour and an earthy touch to your station. They can also save you on the cost of hiring flashy chafing servers while still ensuring an intimate and festive set-up of your food station.

Aim for a fuss-free affair, with ease of heating just before service, hot trays,  low casserole pots or dishes that allow for ease of dishing and visibility of your dishes.

The Art of Hosting

The Feast-on-a-Plate Thali

Thali is a Hindi word that means "a large plate." As a meal, it simply translates to a large plate or platter with various Indian dishes.

A thali is a fun way to share a meal at the table, and you do not have to go out and buy them; you can hire them or go with your best platters and bowls and get creative.

Select your curries, a dhal, samosas, and poppadoms with chutneys and rice. A bread basket or platter works well for rotis and poppadoms.

The trick is to set up your thalis so everyone can access those delicious bowls trays.

Add little bowls of chutneys, pickles, some fresh cut lime or lemons, sliced onions or cucumbers, and a cooling raita that makes the meal go around for those that love heat and those that don't.
